Hi Peter,

Here is some info (from Andy Page at Cornell)

Minimal and prioritized functionality for DSpace/Kaltura integration.

1.) A user uploads a video file to eCommons (DSpace based institutional
repository) together with item metadata. Through some background interaction
with Kaltura, the eCommons record page for this item displays an embedded
player with viewing options appropriate to a user's device, bandwidth, etc.

If eCommons item content is altered (replaced, removed), this change is synced
with Kaltura repository.

The item should not be accessible via another system; that is, all access must
be mediated by eCommons, even though content file delivery is ultimately
facilitated by Kaltura. (This is for two reasons: 1) eCommons deposit agreement
is for deposit to eCommons only, so users shouldn't be discovering the content
in other systems; 2) content in eCommons can have access restrictions, which
need to be respected.) Excludes access via KMC for admin functions.

2. A.) A user deposits a media assets to the eCommons via the KMC or API based
functionality. This connector utilizes the SWORD protocol to deposit the asset
in the eCommons. Asset metadata is transferred as well as the asset. See
attached for eCommons metadata (it should look familiar).

2. B.) This functionality is extended to the KMS and the Blackboard Building
Block.

Subject: Re: [fcrepo-dev] Kaltura and Institutional Repository connector

Mike, could you say more about what a Kaltura connector might do?

I'm not sure yet how interested WGBH will be, but we're using Fedora (with
Blacklight, and likely adding Hydra to the mix, if that makes any difference).

Hi all,

**Please excuse the cross-posting of this email**

Here at Northwestern University we are currently evaluating Kaltura's video
streaming service. There has been some discussion between some institutions
and Kaltura regarding Kaltura building a connector to use with different
institutional repositories (e.g. Fedora, DSpace, ContentDM). I'm trying to
compile a list of institutions that would be interested in using such a
connector.

If you're interested, I'd greatly appreciate you replying to me
(m-strom...@northwestern.edu<mailto:m-strom...@northwestern.edu>) with your
institution and which repository software you're using.

We need your responses very soon (if possible, before the holiday break) in
order to bring this information to Kaltura in a timely manner. Feel free to
pass this email along to other lists.

Thanks very much,
