Hi all,

As of last week, the fcrepo-user and fcrepo-dev mailing lists are now
configured so that replies, by default, are sent back to the list. To
all current subscribers of these lists, we wanted to make sure you're
aware of the change and the reason behind it.

The Fedora committers voted to make this change after careful
consideration over the past few weeks. With the former configuration,
many of us noticed that replies were being accidentally sent to
individuals rather than to the list. We really want to encourage
keeping discussions on the list because for many Fedora users and
developers, the lists are the main avenue for getting help and
discussing Fedora development. In particular, because these lists are
indexed by search engines, the archives act as a useful sort of
knowledge base for people looking for help, so we want to encourage
on-list communication as much as possible.

We recognize that some people won't agree with this configuration, but
we have seen it work well for other open source projects (many of
Apache Jakarta's projects' lists work this way[1]), and we really
believe the benefits outweigh the drawbacks.

Thanks,
Chris Wilper
