Depends on your operating system and storage layer.  Many SANs and 
virtual storage layers can present several different disks, either local 
or remote, as one gigantic disk;  this is something that is usually 
configured at the OS and/or hardware layer, and not within Fedora (or 
any other application higher up in the stack).

One simpler method that we've adopted recently here is to use directory 
symlinks:  have several top-level object and datastream directories 
spread across several filesystems, then use symlinks to the directories 
in one central place to provide a single "virtual" path to them.  We 
currently spread about 2TB of data across four filesystems this way.
