After the old object is deleted this is possible (in fedora commons, I  
don't use islandora and cannot speak for it).

I do this in the following way:

(1) export the object in question as FOXML
(2) fix the PID in the exported FOXML
(3) ingest the object again

all steps using http://localhost:8080/fedora/admin (The Flash interface)
