Sadly enough, I tried the 32-bit version of Ubuntu 8.10 and after installing the restricted drivers for Nvidia and Broadcom, everything currently works. I had installed these drivers in Fedora as well and though wireless worked fine, the graphics driver still caused the screen refresh rate to be too slow to use Compiz. I guess I will look at Fedora again in a while, in the meantime, I am struggling in Ubuntu.
