Not much - wcidff was a pointer, but not much tooling for getting started. That was usually up to the receiving ends of whatever place you reached in the clickthrough. Some teams pointed you towards excellent on-boarding material (e.g. Fedora Magazine) while others dumped you at their wiki page.
