you are right Pete about nonsense of setting ALPS with Synaptics driver... But the thing is that other distros i've used (ubuntu, Mandriva, OpenSuse) on this computer were seeing it like that... and I was able to configure this touchpad via synaptics drivers or utilities...
Anyway, tpconfig looks like an avenue i havent tried. But i'm not familiar with it.. how do i use it... and install it?
