Issue "doesn't work on x86_64 at all" is not true. We're using both i386 and x86_64 synfig versions in production. As I have said, in #40 synfig (core) crashes only if built with libavcodec. IIRC, official Fedora repos are not shipping ffmpeg/libavcodec stuff.
