The tools that categorize software all work off of comps.xml. In any case, that particular group is used by a lot of Java software; e.g., avalon-logkit, axis, bcel, icu4j, jdom, velocity, ws-jaxme, etc. Regarding question 2, that is the shared object used by JNI to connect to the (C++) shared library for invoking native Java methods. It is not a development file; it is necessary for the Java interface to function.
