I think that it would be better to have ntlm support. It is not an obligation, if you don't want to, don't do it, but then you should rebuild gsasl if somebody else submit it (and gsasl is accepted, of course :) Regarding using the alternative mechanism like ssmtp and esmtp do, I think it really should be left to your judgment. Although I do it in esmtp I don't think it is particularly right. The main reason why I do it is because it is a requires for mutt.
