FWIW on FC5, I get an *error* with rpmlint about having a dependency on the -devel package -- is that OK? Perhaps rpmlint should be backported to FC5? Anyway, I have removed the ldconfig, split out the -static package, added the release ID to the sub-package dependencies and added the defattr thing as you said. Please let me know if/what more is required.
