I don't believe it will be maintained further. However, the use of bitset is not mandatory. Comment in library/Zend/Search/Lucene/Index/SegmentInfo.php on line 167 reads: bitset if bitset extension is loaded or array otherwise. Therefore it is possible to use w/o having bitset loaded. This is also true to mime_magic, BTW.
