You can talk about video games here, provided those games are specifically Betrayal at Krondor and Return to Krondor. The Midkemia online game is also on-topic. Though we don't need a play by play of the games. WOW was an invite from REF and since he's not actively pursuing the thread anymore, it needs to fade into the background unless he brings it up again or someone specifically asks for how to find the guild. There's in-game chatter for those who want to participate in discussing what is going on with the guild. The rest of us don't really want to hear game specifics.

Other games, just because they're fantasy, aren't related to the topic of this list. There are forums where those things can be discussed, here is not one of them. A lot of us don't play the same games, or have the same interests so we're not keen on seeing our e-mail boxes fill up with stuff that has nothing to do with the list. Anestis is completely right in cracking down on the list for the sudden abundance of OT postings. It's gotten way out of hand recently. Just because the list is quiet doesn't mean that we need traffic and that makes it okay to post something that is completely off topic.

A few exceptions have existed to the OT rule. Generally major disasters are noted because we do have members all over the globe and we like to make sure they're alright. A few holidays, mostly US and UK centric are noted by list members. Wine and the Chargers have become something of an acceptable pastime because they're things REF really enjoys and knows a lot about. Certain meet-ups, specifically with rip, have also been considered acceptable as it's a gathering of fans.

Rules of thumb:

If it isn't about REF's books / projects / etc. then it's better to wait until REF brings it up. He can bring up any subject he wants. We can not. His perk of being the awesome author with millions of book sales.

Topic drift is fine, intentional off-topic posting is not.

When a list member asks you to take it to the off-topic list or take it private, then please do so within the next post or two. Ask rip for the off topic list address if you're interested.

Finally, no necroing a topic and claiming it's legit. Once the OT has disappeared for a couple days, it's not acceptable to bring it back and say "but we talked about it before!"

Regards,

-James

Apologies, guys and girls. I just assumed fantasy went with fantasy. It beats asking the same questions over and over (I've had those "We've already discussed this" comments before).

So, apologies. I won't relate to a genre that Ray writes in. I'll simply put focused questions to Ray about his work.

Or maybe, even, is it okay to discuss a fantasy based video game on here? And have Ray answer that to supersede these arguments people are having.
