At this point, in hindsight, probably better to just let people post OT ... 
rather than try to enforce it, as that results in 50 extra emails which 
wouldn’t otherwise exist.

Therefore, I vote yes to bringing back the forums. ;)

If we had the forums back this would not be an issue as you can just move post 
and threads to the correct area and let them continue on there.  True there is 
also and OT list where this should probably have been posted (can someone post 
the subscription link for those who don't have it) but the amount of on topic 
emails I delete (all those about drinking alcohol for example) is many times 
greater than the number of OT emails I delete.
