Tales of the Riftwar was designed to be stories about minor characters doing something in the background of the big action. The two you mentioned are the first along those lines. I may do a few more, but solo--writing a novel with another writer is tough enough; I've written one short with Janny, who I knew like the back of my hand by the time we finished the Empire series, and we tried something different with her writing one entire section and me another, so that was enough for me. If I do a few more, I'll probably do a single-author anthology Tales of the Riftwar and Other Stories. I'll put Profit and the Grey Assassin in there, as well as The Last Job, and a humorous Midkemia story I started for an anthology that fell apart before publication. No backstories. What people fail to realize is that what you see of characters like Miranda and Nakor is all I have (or want to have). You've got to remember, these guys are cardboard. The fact you want more tells me I did well in designing them, but whatever backstory I need for them gets told as we go.
