"Le sigh" is a heck of a lot older than the net, and thus Reddit. I grew up with it being a catch phrase of Pepe Le Pew of Looney Toons fame. It's the same kind of association that everyone does with "yada yada yada" being a Jerry Seinfeld thing. That phrase was already in common use decades before that episode aired.

Bad assumptions come from over [simplified] associations.
