I think GOG actually goes and licenses the games with the original holder
-- so whatever entity still holds contracts for Activision/Sierra. At the
very least, when they add titles they add them in a group by original
license holder. And based on some recent additons from Team17, which is
still in existence and were themselves promoting the release of their old
library on GOG, they're actually doing it right -- at least with them.

They also build in wrappers so you don't have to download/install DOSbox
separately, but it (or a similar product) is included and preconfigured for
the game. Makes it simple enough for most anyone.
