Trolls are one thing. Offensive bullshit is another. On the former, I relish 
opposing points of views (trolls as some call them) because they usually make 
great conversations (or I start laughing) and are educational on both sides, 
but the latter I ignore and advise others to do the same. As for pre-web 
trolls? I'm of the belief their might have been a person or billion that were 
argumentative or cynical towards others. lol.

The troll has been around since the dawn of the internet (yes, even before the 
World Wide Web, back when it was all dial-up, newsgroups, e-mail lists, and 
chatrooms).

Possibly there were trolls earlier.
