Ah, you’re missing the best scenery in the uk!! Edingburgh to Manchester by rail I always went east coast Edingburgh to York, York to Manchester. Goes through Newcastle & Leeds as well as fantastic scenery round Berwick & Alnwick as well as through Yorkshire. York station is ‘quaint’. West coast route is a change at Wigan which is better left there!
