Don't know what it was like at other signings but after about 35 mins the queue was only a handful of dedicated fans getting as many books signed as possible.
Step 1, Take all ya books Step 2, Sort books in order you want them signed favourites first etc. Step 3, Sort all dust covers of hard backs so when you open them it's at the correct page for speed Step 4, If Ray is doing dedications have a post it note with ya name on it stuck on the page you want signed Step 5, Get there early so you at the front of the queue Step 6, Take as many friends/family with you as possible its 3 book per person in most places.
