I am a first-time poster so I want to take a moment to thank Ray, not just for
ME but for all the great books I've read since college. I actually started with
Shadow of a Dark Queen and Rise of a Merchant Prince (still my favorite books!)
and worked my way backwards. I am working my way through all the books again
(I'm at TofSH). I have some questions about many of the books but I figured I'd
stick with ME for now.
1) Could someone explain King Ryan/Gregory/Matthew? TotSH mentioned Ryan being
the son of Patrick and having a son named Gregory. I know Matthew popped in
later in the series. ME says that King Gregory was the son of Patrick, is this
correct? Ryan and Matthew never existed?
2) My second question covers the men who wanted to be king. I understand why
the Crydee conDoins and Oliver had valid claims but what about the rest of
them? I assume Chadwick had his claim because he descended from Elena, Arutha's
sister but who were Edward and Montgomery related to?
3) Why didn't Arthur of Salador make a claim since he descended from Carline?
4) Where were the Crimson Eagles? I got the impression that they were here to
stay at the end of Shards of a Broken Crown.
5) In regards to military rank, I understand (from the FAQ) that the Knight
rankings makes them part of the king's army and not tied to any specific noble.
Who did they fight for in the civil war? And the same question for the
Pathfinders.
6) Lastly, could someone explain the Congress of Lords to me? I get that they
choose the king but do they have some sort of parliamentary powers as well?
7) What happened to Tanderae and the surviving Star Elves after the destruction
of E'bar?
(I apologize if the questions are nitpicky, these are the things that make me
go crazy while reading.)
