Wow, um, so I've been asleep for the last few hours, but as OP I'd like to chime in with a few points:
*Firstly, I myself am not disappointed. I mean, I am in the sense that it won't be done (or that I'll have to find another second choice author to ask, if I try), but not with Mr Feist. *Secondly, it's a scavenger hunt. So, unlike the bricklayer analogy and the pure frustrations that musicians feel at being asked to play for free (I mean, I know musicians like to play but that doesn't mean you mustn't pay them - everyone should try enjoy their job!), in this instance the story itself is not important and (at least from my side) cannot be published or used for any benefits besides the submission (Again: from my side. I do not know to what extend gishwhes would use the item, but past applications and pure numbers suggests it would little). It is literally 'get the author to write the story, then submit a picture to prove it happened' and gishwhes takes it from there - from the picture, not the story. That is to say, discussion about free work etc. is an intriguing moral topic, but nevertheless OT. *Which brings me to my third point: Gishwhes is fun, and meant to be - submissions are never meant to be 'donations' in that sense, but rather more like 'playing along'. In retrospect, I should have tried to highlight that (more?) in my original post. If Mr Feist did not want to do it, then - essentially by definition - he should not. And if he DID want to do it, then he has gets the opportunity to do so :) I'd personally love to send Misha a story about him riding an Elopus and slaying dragons cross-bred with ducks for the Queen of England, but such silliness is not everyone's cup of tea. *Oh, and who doesn't want an excuse to offer their favourite author some great wine, right? :) Seriously. It's great wine. Check it out. It's also not exactly the cheapest wine we have around here, so I can't just give it away :( But maybe Mr Feist will try the wine farm when he's down. *Also, check out Gishwhes and join next year. It's great fun. I'm glad you all now know about it :) Benefits can come from just sharing the topic. I think my great adjective-sparse marketting-riddled (sorry about that) list covers everything? G'day fellow feistfans!
