You’re only allowed certain questions.  Didn’t anyone give you a copy of the 
price list?

Seriously, Pug was originally going to be “Pip,” a tip of the hat to Dickens.  
Then Alan Dean Foster came out with the first Flinx and Pip book, so I decided 
to change it.  Pug sprang to mind as another short simple name that someone 
might hang on a kid.  It was pretty much that simple.
