Remember despite all the noise they make about open source .. it's a commercial company which has a lot of closed source software as its core intellectual property (esp. the search engine technology). Also, their market is people with money -- i.e. not open source developers (well, not me atm anyhow .. :) So they're going to target your average kid using Windows. Like, for example, UTube, which is useless crud to me: it uses Flash for video display, a proprietary format, and, one for which there is no 64 bit driver -- I can't see Flash even if I wanted to install the Firefox plugin because there isn't one. I'm not against google group usage -- it's a free service.
