In my opinion they are always contagious.  If second cat has tested negative, get him vaccinated, but he is more likely not going to get it now if he hasn't in all that time.

Hello,

Does anyone have some info on this....Is a cat contagious only when they begin to show signs of FelV or have they been contagious the entire time? I am curious as Scully had the virus "hidden" for almost 10 years. She had no symptoms until January. I'm curious because my other cat has tested negative. However, if she was only recently contagious then his test may not of been accurate. I would like to adopt another playmate soon for him but I don't want to put a healthy cat at risk if there is a chance he is positive (I could find another pos. to adopt if this was the case). I have found sites on the Internet that give me conflicting views and I am confused...

Thanks,
Susan
