I don't know if anyone else has suggested this, as I was not following the thread closely, but I use a product called Cat Fence-In.  It's netting and brackets that attach to the top of a fence and make it so cats can not climb out (the netting just in and up at an angle, so if they try to climb the fence they end up hanging from the netting and jumping down). It works great and is orderable online, though a bit expensive.  But my positives have a big yard because of it.  Simon got out a couple times when it came down without my seeing-- we came home once and he was on the roof of the house! But it generally works well. Michelle
