Probably by injection, pilling her would be more traumatic and I'm not sure, but I think takes longer to take effect.  You don't have to use your house-call vet to run the tests, you could take the blood to your regular vet if you like.  I'd find out how much blood you'll need to run whatever tests you're thinking about.  That way you won't have to draw blood a 2nd or 3rd time.  Why don't you call your most trusted vet and ask them for advise? By the way, I've seen two new "customers" at my feeding dishes.  Neither one acts completely feral, and the new one I spotted last night, actually stayed around while I put down a plate of wet for him.  Great, another stray.  Definitely a Tom, he has those heavy tell-tale jowls.  I didn't get a close enough look to see if he's intact, but if he is, he's going to get snipped whether he "belongs" to somebody or not!
