Macarena,
I don't know if you've been following my problems with Gypsy, but she
has IBD symptoms as well. There is a corticosteroid that is
nonsystemic, (metabolizes quickly and then flushes from the system), so
it reduces the side effects that Prednisone has. It's called
Budesonide, (brand name Entocort). It was approved for use in humans in
2001 for Crohn's disease. I don't have Gypsy on it yet, because I had
Pred in the house and she's on a very small dose to see if it will
help. There is also a supplement, available through your vet, but
someone found it on the internet as well, (I have the link somewhere, if
you're interested), called Nutrigest. It's got a whole bunch of the
recommended supplements in a capsule that you can mix in his food.

The other thing I've learned about IBD is how important diet is. I've
joined a list on Yahoo, and they all swear by a raw diet. But the most
important thing, is no dry, and no wheat gluten, or veggies in the
canned. There's a vet on the list that says the prescription diets that
most vets recommend are really bad for IBD cats! Not hard to believe
after all the things I've heard about SD. Here's the link to a page
that talks about the benefits of a raw diet with links to recipe pages:
http://www.catnutrition.org/

Switching Gypsy to raw food was the first thing I tried, (and I've tried
many things), that had any effect whatsoever. Please feel free to
contact me off-list if you want to hear more about the things I've tried
for Gypsy. Good luck with Kurt, I hope he makes a quick recovery.

thank for all the advice and good thoughts. latest news are it was not
diabetes, but IBD. This I feel I can handle a little better, and even
though the crisis is not finished, I see more light at the end of the
tunnel now. He has not vomitted since last night, he ate a little tuna,
about half a spoon, and I am waiting for special hipoallergenic food to
arrive tomorrow. The vet put him on corticoids, which I don't
particularly like, but we will watch him closely. I will backup with
homeopathic medicine as well, plus aloe vera and Glutamine. Any
suggestion is more than welcome. He is supposed to eat new proteins,
stuff he never had before so his body does not reject it, so even though
it hurts in my heart, i will probably cook rabitt for him tonight.

please keep good vibes coming, because I know they help.

thank you
