Thanks Sally, >>Cats who are FeLV+ should not be given any vaccines, as this represents a >>significant stress to the immune system for even a healthy cat, and a cat >>who has a compromised immune system cannot respond normally as is >>expected.
My vet requires ferals and strays to be Rabies vaccinated when they're treated. But, the 4 way was NOT requested and I think really hurt him. >>If you would like to read further about this point I recommend Dr. Martin >>Goldstein's book The Nature of Animal Healing and/or Dr. Don Hamilton's >>book Homeopathic Care for Cats and Dogs. Thanks for the books. I'm treating him naturally and he's really looking better. After we came home from the vet Monday I made the decision to pull all his meds except the pain meds as needed and start an organic diet with a cancer supplement I have experience with, Transfer Factor, MSM (all my sick animals get MSM, I buy it in HUGE jars and feed it to everyone who looks droopy! >ggg<), ProBi, and Yeast and Garlic. By Thursday AM I had seen no improvement, and he couldn't walk or do anything for himself. I brought him to work with me (it's a family business) in a box, but I never felt like it was his time to go. Gave him one dose of pain meds Thursday at lunch. Thursday night I was so tired I crashed in the floor at work with him and slept for about 4 hours. At 11:07pm he woke me up meowing and patting my hand to feed him. I don't know what happened in those four hours, if the supplements had time to work, if the pain meds broke the pain/increased HR/lack of sleep cycle, or what. But, I woke up very happy to have kitty back. By this morning he can walk about 30' before he starts dragging, he's eating solid food (YAYAYAYA!!!!) ON HIS OWN! Started eating on his own yesterday, I got a fish plate from a sandwich shop, when mom brought it in he decided that was HIS fish and begged and pleaded to get some! >>Don't know if those "muscle tremors" you have observed in TeeCee are >>indicative of the type of neurological damage that can occur with FIP or >>not. Did his bloodwork show a high corona titer? He's not had one in about 24 hours. IMHO, I think that it was dehydration and elyte imbalance. I ride endurance horses and when their elytes get off they have the same type of tremors and spasms. Get some fluids and Elytes in them and they quit. Now that he's drinking on his own he's back to consuming large quanities of water. Far more than he'd drink for me! >>Tee Cee were in my care, I would be very interested in what he could tell >>me about his life and whether or not he is game to keep trying. If you >>are interested, I can refer you to some AC'er that I have worked with and >>consider genuine and reliable. I have a touch of sixth sense and communicate pretty well with all my 4 legged kids (2 cats and 3 horses right now). I never felt like he gave up. I gave up Thursday morning and my dad was going to take him and have him put down this morning if he wasn't better. Thanks for the idea, though. I know he's been through a lot, but I'm not sure how good his life was before now. My Candy, lost her to an evil vet ODing her on Penicillin because she had terminal cancer, was a feral in the neighborhood he came from, and they share many resembelances. He does to her daughters I own, and she and her daughter I lost in December were easy to leash train. So, I think he picked it up from me more than knowing it before me. He's housebroke (and always needs to pee in the *(@& rain at 2am!) but not box trained. >>I will be praying that there are answers for you and a way to help Tee Cee >>get well. If it turns out to be his time to cross over, know that you did >>everything you could and so much more than most people are willing to give >>of themselves...Tee Cee is well aware of your devotion and efforts on his >>behalf, I'm sure. All the time that Tee's been sick his favorite place to sleep or be is on my chest in the recliner. My FIV+ kitty who lives in my bedroom pulled out most of her hair this week because I wasn't "home" with her where I belong at night, but asleep in the living room with Tee. Arranged things now where Rosie, the FIV+ kitty, can come in the rest of the house while Tee's in his 4' by 4' kennel and not have much exposure to him. I think that Tee was blind of a while, but seems to be getting his site back. I'm pretty sure he's deaf in one ear, but that doesn't seem to effect him. And, now that it's warm and dry here he has an outside covered kennel for day time he loves... Thanks for the long email, it made me feel better that I'm doing the right thing... Steph
