The vet did not give Mikey fluids; the purpose of the stuff injected was to bring his fever down and deal with any infection so he would regain energy and interest in his food and water. Yes, that is why the vet wants to hear from me again.
Kerry, it's not only the ferals who don't like being messed with! Mikey was most unhappy about having his temperature taken twice. His little claws are as sharp as needles. He told me that it is typical of the positive condition for a cat to run a high fever from time to time, on the order of a roller coaster effect. The lack of appetite and energy are direct results. He gave him shots of Flocillin and Dypivone, along with Clovamax drops for me to administer for the next 7 days. He directed me to call him in 24 to 36 hours to let him know how Mikey is doing. I am glad that I didn't wait any longer to take him to the vet since he was beginning to become dehydrated and had lost a pound and a half in the past two weeks, which is a lot for a nine pound cat.
