i think this is one of those situations where you really need to be in contact with the cat--force-feeding and hydrating can make all the difference, yet there usually comes a time when it isn't helping, and it's preventing them from completing their journey--very hard call, but i have definitely seen people turn force-feeding and hydrating into torture for a cat that is ready to go...... i go with the "better one day too soon than 5 minutes too late"--i try to listen to the animal, and respect their self-knowledge.... (sounds simple, doesn't it? HA!)
