Hey, Stan - I know Gloria has already answered this  - but wow, did we learn a LOT about making assumptions on this little escapade.  There were definite sightings of Sam a couple of blocks west of where he had been living.  Not just by the kids who were helping us but also by adults  (one of which for various reasons I was convinced was a drug dealer but who turned out to be a state senator -- talk about the danger of assumptions!).  One of the properteries on which he'd been sighted (the senator's) was a full city block with so many wonderful, safe hidiing places for a scared kitty that we concentrated our efforts there - and actually, in probably a 4-5 square block area there -- all basically west of his former home.  We just didn't think he'd venture back in the other direction, especially since there was a busy street to cross.  Thank goodness we at least put up one flyer est of Main Street - that one flyer was what found him.  So we both learned a lot about how to do a search - NEVER, EVER discount a particular area or direction because we don't think it likely.   He definitely had stayed in our search area for about a week and a half, but then crossed the busy street and had been seen 2-21/2 blocks east of his original home for several days.  If we ever have to look for a kitty like this again, we will know to fan out iin ALL directions, at least 3-4 blocks, and of course to use the magic conbination of reward money, neighborhood kids, and bags of bubble gum and blow pops!

Gloria and I are going back tonight to take some more treats and some reward money to the 4 kids who were with us every step we took and were our eyes and ears when we weren't there --  even tho they didn't fiind Sam they played a big part in the search.

Gloria,

I am just interested how far the house of the lady was from the foster home?

Did he pass any major roads or just small streets?

It will be helpful for the future.

Thanks and enjoy your time with Sam. You deserve it...

Stan
