at the sanctuary, over the years, they found that the snap test was
only accurate 60% of the time in adult FIVs (tho there are some
exceptions, essentially there are no FIV+ kittens--something like 95%
or more who test positive will no longer do so once mom's antibodies
are out of their bodies--usually between 6 and 9 months of age).
because of that 40% false positive rate--and, being a sanctuary, this
was in a large sample of cats--the sanctuary never took in an FIV+ cat
unless the positive status was confirmed by a positive western blot.
