Yeah, I had heard that as well...I think there's some debate about the issue which, I believe, comes down to how confident the surgeon is with performing a spay on a female in heat...perhaps something to do with blood vessels (associated with the uterus/ovaries) being enlarged and the risk associated with nicking one of those vessels, or something to that effect...I'm not entirely sure. But Lola was certainly in heat, and I even mentioned this to the vet the day of the surgery having heard that a cat in heat shouldn't be spayed...but my vet didn't even bat an eye...and Lola came through with flying colors! :)
