The two protocols that I have used were, 5 days straight, then eod for 7
days. That was the first time I used it. After that when symptoms
presented, I'd just give the 5 days straight. I'm intrigued by the
once-a-month idea. Thanks for the feedback. How's our boy today?

Nina - The interferon omega is given differently depending on what
they give it for. For Claicivirus they would give it orally usually
but for FIV protocol it is injected - There is 5mu in a vial (5 vials
= £170) and they need 1mu per kilo of body weight daily for 5 days
then 2 weeks from start date repeat the 5 days of injections. I assume
they would use this protocol for FeLV too but not 100% sure. Then they
repeat every 6 months or if symptoms occur. As for any other protocols
it is trial and error due to a lack of scientific evidence. Glasgow
University instruct the vets here in UK on the protocols and are happy
to try different protocols but have nothing to rationalise it with. It
is trial and error but Sue Taft from the FIV group is giving 1
injection every 3 weeks as a maintainence/prevention therapy - again
nothing to prove or disprove it is working but it appears to be
working well for her kittie. I think when our kitties are so sick then
there really is nothing to lose by trying so I am going to use the
protocol in agreement with my vet - it is technically developing your
own protocol depending on how often you feel your cat needs it - and
Glasgow love it as they will be getting data from it via feedback from
vets.
Other protocols that can be used include smal amount injected into
gums under anaesthetic for chronic stomatitis, and used as eyedrops I
believe for some conditions - so I have no idea how many protocols are
going about but we just follow FIV protocol (sub cutaneous injections
back of neck) and am devising one to try with Bramble according to his
condition - every 3-4 weeks. Bramble is 4kg so he needs 4mu per
injection - so after the course he will get 4mu every 3-4 weeks. We
are starting every 4 weeks to begin with and go to 3 weeks if need be.
I have no idea about giving Alpha and Omega together - maybe someone
else might know that one - I suspect that just one of them is
sufficient though.
