My Dear Friends,

You are faced with, quite possibly, the hardest decision in the world.  My heart breaks for you.  It's completely natural for any human being with a compassionate soul to question the course of action.  It's also completely natural to second-guess and change our minds and hope for a second and despair for a minute and on and on.  Nina, Chappy literally turned away from me, too, when he was dying.  I felt he was telling me he didn't want to go on.  I had called the day before to make and appointment to euthanize him, and as soon as the receptionist answered, we were disconnected.  I felt it was a sign and did not call back.  He  seemed to perk up a bit, but only rallied for a few hours before he continued his downhill slide and turned away from me.

If you choose to euthanize, I want you to know that I have euthanized kitties who were extremely thin and it's unusual for the vet to have difficulty locating a vein.  You might ask for an injection of a tranquilizer before the injection to euthanize is given.  I had to do that with Little Evie because she struggled; she was in terrible pain.  It gave us about 15 minutes together where she was just very drowsy and physically relaxed and when we proceeded, it was much easier for her.

Nina and Janine, know that you are in my thoughts and prayers, as surely as Grace and MacKenzie are.  I am so sorry and so terribly sad for all.

Love, Julie
