Hi, you guys, please read the below email
from this lady from FIV support group – if you guys know any clinic
in her area – please contact her or contact me so that she has a
different alternatives.. I would appreciate your help! Hideyo From: Hideyo Yamamoto Please don’t take to a place where
they are going to be euthanized? I have both FeLV and FIV cats and none
of them are symptomatic.. they can live many many years – How much does
it cost to take to a regular vet – is there any rescue group who offers a
discount surgery? – Here’s what I suggest – can
you afford ask your vet to draw a blood from the kitty? You can either
have him test there if you can afford it or send the sample to me, and have
someone I know here test it – if he is negative, then you feel safe to
take him to the clinic which offers you discount – if it’s
positive, then you will need to take him to a regular vet or others who
won’t euthanize – if you can’t afford it, I will pay what you
cannot afford – I don’t have that much money, but I will come up
– he is not ill and he is not suffering,, regardless of the blood result,
he never should be euthanized (especially FIV – it’s really not a
big deal) – Just let me know what you would like me
to.. I will try to help you in anyway I can – Also don’t assume that he is FIV
positive – you just never know.. I have many kitties who tested positive
in the colony.. but many many are negative though they share everything.. good
luck with everything – and I am here for you if you need help. Hideyo From: I mostly lurk around this list. Much of the
conversations center around highly technical and advanced forms of treatments
but I'm learning a bit. As I have posted a while ago, I have been feeding
a stray/ferral guy, CottyCat, since before last Christmas. I have
been just able to get close to him and pet him. Now he comes to me before
eating. I need to get him to a vet as his skin is a mess. I have
good reasons to think he is probably FIV+ . I contacted the local
spay/neuter clinic that also has vet hours since they seem to be very
reasonable. I just can't afford my regular vet anymore. Two and
three hundred + on my last two visits. It's just out of the question
since I think my stray will require a considerable work-up. Well, the
clinic offers an IDEX-SNAP test to determine both leukemia and FIV. The
woman at the other end told me that if either show up positive, the cat should
be euthanized. Of course, I began to enlighten her about FIV but I didn't
have a good feeling at the end. I did mention the Western Blot but she
had never heard of this. There we go. I expect that this IDEX-SNAP test
may not be reliable. I would like some opinions please. How about
the leukemia? Should he be put down if he has that? If I can get him
fixed up, I would like to find a good home. I have 5 cats (Mikey is the
only one FIV+) & 3 dogs, all strays or dumpees. I can't afford them as
it is. Cotty is aggressive but eventually he might calm
down. He'll need a special owner. I'm anxious because winter is
coming and I don't think he'll get through it outside. I live in west
