One of the FIV group members once told us his flea ridding story and I couldn't stop laughing.
He said use a comb which I agree after seeing the horror of topical flea treatments I wouldn't use them on an FIV or FeLV cat again. He said when you get a flea off pop it in some water in a pot with a lid on and when he had them all he put the pot of fleas in water in the microwave for 30 seconds or so for good measure.
