I am writing in hopes that someone may shed some light on my situation. I have previously adopted 4 FeLV +ive kitties who have all crossed over so I am relatively familiar with the disease, however, I am now faced with a very unusual situation. My fiance and I have 10 inside only kitties including one 2 year old kitty named Bear who is the subject of this email. My fiance's mother rescued Bear and his sister when they were just tiny little puffs of fur and hand raised them until she found what she thought was a good home for them with a friend. Before the 'lady' (and I use that term very loosely) took them they were both tested for FeLV and were negative. The 'lady' did not take care of them at all and shortly after giving them up my fiance's mother found them in the middle of a state highway, scraggly, and very scared. We took them in and Bear developed a URI about 4 months later so we took him to our doctor. She suggested testing him again just to be on the safe side and much to our shock and dismay it came back +ive. She then sent bloodwork to an outside lab and the results were -ive. So we had him retested 3 weeks later in house and it was +ive. We have been on an emotional rollercoaster needless to say so we waited 4 months to retest him. Yesterday we took him in to our doctor and his in house results came back -ive so again our doctor sent bloodwork out and she just called to let me know it came back +ive. So he has been tested 6 times (at 4 different vets with 4 in house and 2 to an outside lab) and they have been -, +, -, +, -, +, -, and +. We are very devistated and our vet has said she has never seen anything like it and she deals with FIV and FeLV kitties. She emailed another vet who specializes in FeLV and I am hoping she can shed some light on our situation. She did suggest testing the bone marrow - has anyone had experience with this test? Has anyone had a situation like this? We had all our 9 other kitties tested and they all came back -ive includig his sister who stays with him. I would appreciate any advice at all - we are so heartbroken and would like to hear from anyone. Please feel free to email me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thank you!
Julie
