The main issue is to make sure your vet gives euthasol in the vein. Some
vet's give
Euthasol (euthasol is pink) or a blue solution in the stomach, and this
takes longer
to act unless the cat is VERY ill. The blue kind seemed to take even longer
to act,
and I will specifically request the PINK euthasol from now on. I have had
both forms
of euthanasia done, and I prefer the euthasol via IV. It works in 3 to 10
seconds,
whereas the other euthanasia solution given in the stomach take 30 seconds
to a
minute (which seems like an eternity when you are holding them and saying
goodbye). I
have never had a vet offer or give a sedative before euthanasia, in fact, I
had never
even heard of that until joining this list. All except ONE of the animals I
had put
down went very peacefully. The one that went bad was a VET mistake, she
missed the
vein and injected it Sub-Q. It was VERY nasty and heart-breaking, the dog
cried and
thrashed around for a full 2 or 3 minutes in agony (this was the same vet
that told
me ringer's solution given sub-q would slough the skin off). God, I hope
she's not
still in business! Anyways.. back to the topic. Just make sure you have a
good vet
and it goes in IV.

I'm so sorry to hear that it's Cricket's time. I hope his euthanasia is
peaceful and
painless. The fact that you are researching it shows how much you care, and
I'm sure
he appreciates it.
