The use of winstrol is bringing out the "big guns", so to speak.  It is a very powerful steroid, and, like any drug there are warnings and precautions.
However, I have found that when using winstrol on a terminal illness, it has been a godsend for the kitty.....
You have to weigh everything, and make the best decision for the kitty....
I believe if it "works", improves the day-today prognosis, then go for it.
Unfortunately, with a terminally ill baby, you know that no matter what you do, the end will come.
Winstrol can restore muscle mass, improve appetite & restore quality of life for the baby.
Of course, it's use must be monitored, but I firmly believe that "if" you can make the kitty comfortable, improve quality of their life, then definitely use it.
We have had many kitties who were able to live beyond what initial prognosis was using winstrol..... (We have used it w/ CRF, AIHA, Felv, FIV...even different cancers.....)
This is just my experience and opinion......
