So glad to hear Brooklyn is feeling better. Yes, cats can be hard to figure out sometimes! I have one that will bite like that sometimes but doesn't break the skin or anything.
You will learn to notice the signs for when petting time is over. Others will be able to tell you more about retraining for that type of behavior.
With the diarrhea a fasting period is always a good start. Just like with people.
As far as the bite, cat bites can be very bad. It's probably too late now, but you are supposed to run your hand (or whatever was bitten) under water as long as it bleeds to try to wash out as much bacteria as you can. Once the bite heals over it's sealing in the bad stuff and can get very infected and hurt more than you would think possible for not looking that bad!
If I were you I would soak the wound in very warm water
for a long time (like 30 minutes!) and then run hot water over it and try to wash it out as well as you can at this point. After that I would flush it with peroxide. Even soak it in peroxide if you can. Then put an antibiotic ointment on it.
I had a bad bite one time and after doing this at least twice a day for over a WEEK the swelling finally went down. I didn't want to go to the doctor because I didn't want the bite reported. Lots of people do end up going to the doctor for cat bites though. If Brooklyn has not had his rabies shot yet there is NO WAY I would go to the doctor unless I first got his rabies shot (and hid the bite from the vet) and then waited until it had time to take effect and lie about when you were bitten. They can quarantine your animal, etc.... lots of trouble.
Stray cats often have eating problems. I had one stray who would eat until he
threw up nearly every time he ate because he was so used to not having food. I would feed him small amounts at a time, finally, to stop it. He never adjusted to the fact that there was plenty of food now.
If you're trying to break the begging behavior you have to NOT feed any table food and only give Brooklyn his cat food. I have cats that won't touch people food because they've never had it............
Best of luck, and keep us posted. I hope this helps some.

Hi Everyone-
I haven't been around much because I've been doing a lot of engagement and wedding planning for my sister who just got engaged and haven't had a chance to read through things going on with all of you. I just wanted to touch base and say that I hope everyone is well, and just let everyone know that Brooklyn is doing well. He didn't seem to be getting better from the diarrhea even with the meds I was giving, so towards the end of his treatment I decided because I had read it in an article...that I would let his stomach settle and not feed him for 24 hours. Well either the meds kicked in or the fasting helped, because he had solid cat poops the very next day. He's happy, but also very bratty and fresh! I'm still learning to understand cat behavior, we were cuddling and he was purring and I was petting him and then he just turned and bit me. I couldn't really understand why, but as I understand it sometimes they just have enough and if you don't read the warning signs, they let ya know with a good bite that they've had it. He's also been a horrible beggar! To the point that he meows loudly and demandingly and tries to knock food right out of my hands and off my plate. I have to admit it's entertaining, but it does get to be a bit difficult to eat and sometimes makes me feel he needs a lesson on manners. lol. I know he was a stray and can see too when I feed him that he CHARGES for the food as if it's the only meal he might have. Can anyone explain the biting to me a little further and also, whats the whole health issue with cat bites/scratches? The bite punctured skin and hurt a LOT and its taking a long time to heal. Any info/advice etc? He's so cute. climbs into bed and snuggles up against me and is always rubbing up against my face when it's bedtime. he's quite a character. Anyhow...thats the ramble for now. Hope all is well with everyone. Thanks for everything!
