LOL! When I started reading your post I realize I told my doctor that I had been on methamizole for my hyp0thyroid previously. ha. She asked about it and I said yes, 'something like that'! lol. If I hadn't already told her I was crazy that might have given it away.
Who can remember all these medicines for cats AND people???

Hi Wendy
My oldest, Katyis, recently---about a month ago--was diagnosed hyperthyroid.
He's been prescribed a quarter of what appears to be a 5mg methimazole pill
daily. (He was supposed to be getting it twice daily but I have to go away
today for 2 weeks and the petsitter will be coming only once daily--the vet
said 1/4 once a day was fine).
I tried to research diet--or at least find out more about the success of
Anitra Frazier's dietary recommendation in her book The New Natural Cat--but
so far have come up with nothing. I would be very interested to know if it
can be reversed with diet.
Sorry i can't be of help re your Qs Wendy---sounds like we've run into this
at the same time!
Kerry
