I think he is doing good! He has a good appetite and now he has been re-hydrated, he looks much much better!
I just have to tell you guys how so proud of I am with this baby -- I probably have said this before.. but I have to say it again... I have known him for the past 10 years.. and I finally trapped him about 4 or 5 years ago.. he used to as feral one can be.. I could never touch him until about a several months ago.. now he lets me massage his neck, which he LOVES and let me give him fluid and medications and all that.. I just can't come to him and pick him up like I do others.. but he sort of let me catch him if I really try.. And for the very very first time today,,, I heard his voice.. he mewod for the very very first time.. can you believe it? I was at the vet waiting with Hannibal for Daisy and Leo (Daisy was on dental surgery and Leo was there to do glucose).. and Leo meowed (Hannibal and Leo do not live in the same house since Leo has FIV), and all of sudden Hannibal started meowing.. how so sweet!.. Anyway I took my Hannibal to 2 different vets this morning - 1)recheck his PCV and 2)check his BP in case we decide to start using epogen. His PCV was 20 last Tuesday, and this morning it was still 20. But the main difference is that he was very dehydrated on Tuesday, and he is well hydrated today.. so the vets and I agreed that his PCV value is getting back on his own. So, both vets suggested that I wait on epogen and re-check his PCV again sometime next week - he is doing really good actually, he has a good appetite and he looks better. >From discussions I had with my vets, I think what happened was (significant rapid increase of BUN, crea, phos and decrease in HCT) - probably a combination of - effect on anesthesia from dental surgery from a month ago, and added to the fact that I did not give any fluid to him for three weeks followed by the dental (what a stupid things to do!) --- so, we are hoping that we can control his kidney condition better with fluid therapy and other supplements and hopefully, his PCV will come back up - I am not sure why, I just have a feeling that it's going to happen - just a total hunch..something tells me that his PCV will go back up on its own and other kidney values will go back down. He seems already look so much better with every day fluid.. but I will keep a close eye on his PCV level for sure.. His BP was 1800 - on high end.. but he was probably very stressed out being a feral boy.. I did not do iron test - it was going to require 4 ml serum which is a lot to pull form his condition right now.. so I decided to wait - I already bought epogen so that I have it in my hand if I ever need to use for him. Thank you very much for all your prayers - you guys are the best as always. please let me know if you have any suggestions.
