Sheila,

I am so sorry.  This happend with one of my cats as well.  I noticed he was sick on like a Thursday, and he was gone on Monday.  We DID do iv fluids, etc... but I didn't want him hospitalized all weekend, and tried to do them at home.  It is difficult to reverse the situation if they are in kidney failure, even if you treat it aggressively.

Like you, I didn't notice until it was too far along.  Cats are good at hiding when they don't feel well until they are really sick.

It sounds like Rudy went very peacefully, and from your email you were both certainly blessed to have each other.  I know you are going to miss her so much, but you will notice her spirit is still around you in many little ways if you watch.

And yes, I would be p-o'd with the vet who diagnosed an ear infection.  I don't think I'd go back to that vet. grrrrrrr.

Take care,
tonya

My baby Rudy passed today at 4: PM. My husband and I stayed with her all day she slept between us, so I know she was where she wanted to be. She passed so peacefully looking in my eyes. I have lost a lot of kitties in my life but never one to go so quickly and easily. A few short breaths, no cries and she was gone.
