CATS GET A CHANCE TO BE FAMOUS

GREENVILLE, N.C. Proud cat owners now have a chance to make their beloved pet a star.

The Marley Fund is looking for cats to grace the pages of their 2007 full-color calendar to help support a worthy cause. The fund is holding this annual calendar contest from March 1 through June 30.

"The calendar is our most important educational tool used throughout the year, making the contest a very special event,” said Joy Eubanks, Marley Fund founder and president. “Each year the contest grows, more pet owners are educated, and more lives are saved."

The Marley Fund is the only non-profit organization in the nation dedicated to striking back at Feline Leukemia (FeLV) and Feline Immunodeficiency (FIV) viruses, the number one killers of felines to date. Proceeds generated from the 2007 calendar drive will help support the animals residing at the Marely House, a safe haven for special needs felines that carry the virus.

“The calendar contest is a great way for cat owners to show off their pet’s one-of-a-kind personality and appearance,” said Barbara Bullington, press liaison for the Marley Fund and previous calendar entry judge. “If you’ve got a picture of your cat doing something regal, funny, cute, or just being its typical self, you might end up with the chance to let thousands of people see it. It’s also terrific that everyone who enters is supporting a wonderful cause.”

Entries should include the name, date of birth, history and brief story about the cat. Owners should provide an explanation of why the cat is so special, which may include personality, quirks, loyalty, special appearance, and dedication. Photos of the cat also need to be included. The quality of the photograph is very important to judging. There is a limit of five photos per animal, and photos cannot be returned. Winners will be selected based on clarity and originality, along with strength of story.

"We are excited as always to see the 2007 entries and read their stories, as everyone is a winner with us,” Eubanks related. “Reading the stories, always pulls on our heart strings and it brings a warm feeling to know that others feel as strongly as we do about our mission."

There is a $10 entry fee per animal. Please make checks or money orders payable to Marley Fund. All entries should be sent to Marley Fund, 1510-208 Wimbledon Way, Greenville, N.C. 27858.

Entries can be viewed at the Marley Fund’s website at: www.marleyfund.com. Twelve winners and 10 finalists will be contacted on July 10.

For more information, please call Marley Fund at 252-215-0925.
