You've got a lot going on!  I'm glad Bailey is improving.  It sounds like you have a wonderful vet.

I had a hysterectomy a few years ago and I asked to have it done without cutting and they did.  They sent me home the following day from my surgery and I had regular, general anesthesia.  I had to ask specifically about it though.  My doctor was planning to cut and a friend told me to ask for endoscopic surgery.  So I did, and the doctor said 'ok. fine.'............  I don't understand why they wouldn't offer that as first choice?  But evidently they don't  because it's more difficult, expensive, and/or both............. But it certainly is an easier recovery.

I would definitely wait for the insurance to be straightened out if at all possible.  Just paying your part of the insurance will be a lot of money!

Take care of yourself and Bailey and keep us posted.

Hi Nina & All,
Bailey is doing better his bloodwork continues to be good, just did
one yesterday and his HCT is at 41%. he is still lethargic but I've
been weaning him to a lower dose of pred and now he is getting 10mgs,
down from 20mgs two and a half weeks ago, and next week we go to 5mgs.
he is more active with the lower pred dose so I think it was making him
more lethargic. His iron is also low, it was 40 - 3 weeks ago and I've
got it up to 57 now, but normal is between 65 and 125, so we have a ways
to go with that. My vet order iron injections, another feLV+ she is
treating has not been responding to the epogen and has already had two
transfusions and has gone from an HCT of 9% to 14% with the first
transfusion and from 8% to 15% with the second but the iron injection
has gotten him up to 19% and he is acting and feeling alot better.

She also consulted with a holistic vet in Edmondton and told him about
the kidney problem, Bailey still flinches when she palpatates his right
kidney, the ultrasound showed nothing and xrays show nothing, but there
is definately something going on. The holistic vet said your kidneys
hold your essence and any chonically ill person's or animal's essence
will fade so he is sending some herbs that will specifically target
healing the kidneys. And we still have low blood pressure, it was 78 at
the vets Tuesday when we did the bloodwork.

He is feeling alittle better though and has even been going outside the
last few days. He is out in the living room with us instead of hiding
in the bedroom. He is slowly gaining some weight back (up to 9 pounds)
and his wasting is slowly improving.

I'm alittle worried because I am suppose to have surgery on the 5th and
if I do will have to stay in the hospital for a day or two and Mike will
have to feed him and take care of him. And when I get home I won't be
able to sit for long periods probably for a few weeks so it is going to
be hard to get on the computer. I really tried talking the Dr into
letting me go home, am having a hysterectomy and having it done with a
spinal anesthesia, I told him the only way I would do it is if they
didn't knock me out, so I did talk him into that but he said I will be
spending the night and if they have to cut me probably two nights. I
have never been away from Joey or Bailey and Joey is such a baby I hope
he will be OK. And of course I am going to be going crazy worrying
about them. I really don't want to stay in the hospital and if I feel
OK, I'm still going to try and get them to let me go home.

PS. The reason I may or may not have the surgery is because we found
out that even though Mike's job has been telling me to go ahead and keep
my Dr. appointments all this month because we were covered, well now the
insurance say's we are NOT covered, our coverage ended in February. I'm
trying to find out about COBRA, so there is a very slim chance I may not
have the surgery until Mike goes back to work (which would be just fine
with me) :) And thanks to Mikes companies blunder, I probably
racked up about 3 or 4000.00 in bills I wouldn't have if I had known!!
Mike is telling me I am having the surgery even if we don't have
insurance, but I can't see paying a 20,000.00 bill. And what's worse,
ther is the possibility that once he does go back to work, they won't
cover it because then it will be a pre existing condition, which it
wouldn't have been if I had known we weren't covered because I would
have waited until Mike went back to work to go to the Dr and find out
what was wrong, so we may end up having to sue his company!! What a
mess :(

So please forgive me if the service is sporadic the next couple of
weeks, the stress of getting so far behind on things is making me crazy.
I sure hope the bad things for this year are over with!!
