Program, a pill that is a flea birth control hormone, seems to work well, and I feel like it is safer than the chemical topical applications (not sure if that is true or not).  I don't use it with mine, but I don't use anything for fleas at this point. If they get them, I would use that before a topical.

If it isn't treated for fleas the fleas are going to jump on the kitty. Then you know for obvious reasons.
Us humans can carry fleas into our homes as well.
Especially when around a lot of sand and dirt.
