If he is very obese, there is an increased risk of complications from the sedation used during his neuter surgery. Hopefully your vet is aware and careful, and it wont be an issue. I've found that Innova Lite (in the orange bag) is the best lite cat food for obese cats, they really lose weight on it, even fed free-choice. I'd seriously consider holding off on the neuter until he's down to at least within 4 pounds of his ideal weight.
