Dear Patti,
"Apologies?" Huh? You gotta be
kidding.
My God, you're a total star,
you know that, don't you. You're able in spite of all your challenges
to appreciate the "ups" when they happen. (You make me think of my
dad-----he has the same great attitude.)
Hope you've had some sleep by
now. I also hate to think of you trying to get to all your email, and ending up
at the PC for hours, and falling asleep/off your chair. I for one love hearing
from you---but this is not about me/us, it's about you, so I have to say
this-- pleeeease Patti, give yourself all the rest and breaks you
need---like everyone else has been saying, we'll always be here for you. (But
please just check in enough so we know how you are!) I'm sure I'm not alone in
being absolutely amazed at how much you're doing given the beating up your poor
bod and brain have taken--you've got such incredible spirit. (I can tell you now
that my emails would be so full of "woe is me" that my friends would be doing
the cyber equivalent of crossing the street when they saw me coming.)
Like someone else said
(Phaewryn?) please force (good) calories into you. From my own past experience,
I imagine the depression is largely the source of your appetite loss and
insomnia. That weight will sure fall off faster than a cat guzzling a plate
of cream if you're not eating.
Thanks for the mailing
address---worry not, Box 244 will be writ large and card will be mush-free! I
know exactly what you're talking about. Here it's the zip code. Even when the
rest of the address is as plain and accurate and full as could be--if the zip is
"off', back it goes.... (Aside: When I first came here to U.S., I was so
friggin miserable in my horrible job that i used to spend my lunch hour browsing
the humorous section of the greetings cards in the local book store just to
cheer myself up (hey, whatever it takes). It largely worked, for those few
brief moments anyway, but i used to be awfully puzzled by one card: on the
front, Happy 50th Birthday, with scary-looking woman in curlers (rollers?),
cigarette hanging from lips. Inside, caption: Hey, it could be worse, you could
be working at the Post Office. Being a Brit, I didn't get it. (Our PO is--or
was, at any rate, ahem, a little different) Now, I do! Oh yes, I
definitely do.
If you'll excuse me, I now have
to go find a card for a precious friend in Codorus--till later, much love and
big, big hugs, Kerryxxx

From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Sunday, July 23, 2006 6:16 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Apologies Dear Group. (Especially Take Note Nina & Kerry),
I am so sorry that I have not participated much lately. Things seem
to be getting more difficult, if you can imagine that! In fact, I
"thought", well "tried to send not one, but two e-mails last night, only to
discover that apparently they never went anywhere........(Probably happened when
I fell off chair last night, or I should say morning cause I was at PC for
hours! Insomnia......what can I say about that, other than...I HATE
IT!!!)
You have all been so very kind with your thoughts and prayers. This
is DEFINITE:LY the best group out there! (As Michelle wrote in an earlier
e-mail...See? Parts of my memory is drifting back. S-L-O-W-L-Y. Too slowly
for me anyhow, but they say, "Patience is a virtue". and apparently I am NOT
blessed with that virtue.)
Anyway, I found out while going thru the TONS of mail waiting for me, that
what was not covered by "exhausted" auto insurance WAS picked up by state.(Which
makes NO sense, since I have been on SSDI and was told my monthly income was too
large (ha!ha!) for state coverage). But, hey, I am not complaining - YET!!
I also found out that Medic-Aid has 3 programs available in this state, and,
since I was in hospital at time, did not get to choose the one I wanted, so they
put me in one.(The one that MOST of my specialists do not participate
in!!)
I had a couple of Dr. appts. this week, and news is NOT great. (Suppose it
could be worse though).
My spleen was ruptured at time of accident. Then, repaired
supposedly. Probably was, but I have been "trying" to do too much.....
Anyway, I have lost MORE weight. Not a good thing when I was a size
5, and, now size 3's slide right off. (Hell, I lost TWO pounds overnight!)
I also have been having intense, sharp, pains on left side, could be that area.
I am NOT hungry, in fact, I usually feel "full". It's a chore to
eat.
They had me on some "stomach medicine" (what nurses told me in hosp)., and
when I asked, they said it was for acid reflux, heartburn, the like. Never had
that problem, then or now, so I did not get Rx. filled when released.
(Especially, since I had to pay, and it was over $130.00).
I found out that it is "more" of a medicine to prevent problems with
digestive tract and that is probably WHY it was Rx'ed. Also found out that I
should have been referred to internal medicine for post surgery follow up.
Dr. thinks that eiiher my spleen did not heal correctly, or I have additional
internal injuries, that they did not diagnose at time! LOVELY!!!
And, get this ----- because that specialist does not participate in plan I
was assigned to, pharmacy will NOT fill that Rx.!! (OR, the one for my new
anti-depressant either, but that's a whole other story!)
I was "fortunate enough" to be able to get in to see a Dr. Monday morning,
who WILL write scripts AND the referal for Bone Dr. I see Monday afternoon.
(Shoulder & clavicle did NOT heal right either. The clavicle was protruding
thru my skin, so they just "stuck" it back in!. I imagine they must do all
sorts of "quick, easy fixes" when patient is not expected to live! But, damn, I
lived, and now I am miserable! Who's to blame, really?)
As far as my vision, it is getting worse. Supposedly due to nerve
damage. When I called to see if I could get in any earlier, they told me
that I had to call THEM for cancellations! Now I always thought the Dr.
was to keep a list for cancellations. At least that's how it was when I
was working for a Dr. Beats me.......(In fact, reason I was on PC so very
long yesterday was to "try" to correct all my errors...now, I am not going to
evn try...Hey, I AM brain damaged, should be expected, right? My attempt
at humor).
Truthfully, I have been SO depressed, I am not up to talking on phone. (Who
knows, it just might be the potion I need, but, I am just NOT up to it with all
the news I just got).
But Kerry, you asked about sending me a "REAL" card, and that would be
something I'd like very much. (Just don't get too mushy).
So, here's the info"
Patricia E. Shiflett
23 Baltimore Street
Box 244
Codorus, Pa. 17311
Mind you, the MOST important part of that address is the BOX number!!!
(Don't ask me why though!) This is a very small town, (POST OFFICE
ONLY!!!), and even though they make it their business to know ALL the
residents,, heaven forbid if the wrong box number is
on the envelope. (Can't figure that out either cause they know who lives where
and WHAT bo number! They even RETURNED a b-day
card to my (elderly) mother cause she "forgot" to include Box # - Go
fighure...Just finally UNDERSTANDING that "Go postal" comment...Uh, Yeppers, I
am a wee bit slow at times,
So all, please forgive my lapse of communication, you ALL have been on my
mind, I do try to keep updated with posts, but with my "brain" & things
tend to get diffficult, but I want you ALL to know you have been on my
mind,, VERYY IMPT.!!!
Pleases forgive all the errers. It is 7:00 AM * I must have
"crashed" when writinhg..
Feeliing bad, going to signoff now
With love,
Patti
